I soft-launched crashstop.org/chicago a little while ago, but hadn’t mentioned it on my blog yet, so here it is. For years I’ve been wanting to make Chicago’s traffic crash data useful and accessible — both at a personal how-bad-is-it-where-I-bike level, and I hope, for academic and policy impact. So I finally built it, with a little SQLite and Svelte 5.

There’s still much more for me to add; for example, just today I curated my 300th story in my long journey to research and augment the 1,100 fatal crash records since 2018. But I’m happy that for now, it’s still a very functional reference and mapping site.
